Tortuguero is a land of incredible biological diversity. It is a tropical paradise providing habitat for more than 300 different species of birds. Our bird watching tour is for 3 hours, and you have the option of walking, riding in a boat, or walking for 1½ hours and taking a boat for 1½ hours. Examples of some of the birds that can be seen in Tortuguero are the humming bird, ibis, osprey, hawk, scarlet macaw, great green macaw, parrots, kingfisher, warblers, peregrine falcon, woodpecker, herons, orioles, 3 species of toucans, and hundreds of other birds. You should wear appropriate clothing for riding in a boat or walking in the rain forest to protect you from the sun and rain. You should bring sun block, mosquito spray, and bottled water.

The fresh water rivers and Caribbean Sea provide the sport fisherman in Tortuguero with many options. Tortuguero has an extensive river system with  beautiful scenery and wildlife that you can experience while fishing for snook, calva, machaca, guapote, and mojarra. The Caribbean Sea provides excellent tarpon, snook, king fish, barracuda, snapper, and crevalle jack fishing.

Experienced native Captain will take you to their best fresh water and salt water fishing spots depending upon the time of year. The fishing boats are open air and it is important that you wear appropriate clothing to protect you from the sun and rain. You should bring sun block, a hat, polarized sun glasses, and a rain jacket. For the 2 hour tour, you should bring bottled water. For the ½ day and full day tours, bottled water, soda, beer, and sandwiches are provided.

Tortuguero ATV Riders is the sole ATV tour company in Tortuguero. Each ATV is an automatic 200CC Katana, a subsidiary of Suzuki, less than 2 years old. The ATVs are safe, fun, and easy to drive. The tour is for 2 hours and starts in the town of San Francisco, which is located across the river from the town of Tortuguero, and follows a trail that runs parallel to the Caribbean Sea. Each tour is led by an experienced guide. The tour will take you through the beautiful Caribbean countryside where you will see the Caribbean Sea, small farms, and sparesly populated wilderness. You will see beautiful trees, palms, plants, and animals. Each tour has a stop at a beach in front of the Caribbean Sea, and a small country restaurant for food and refreshments. You should wear appropriate clothing for riding an ATV including closed shoes. Bring sun screen and a poncho or rain jaket. There are 3 guided tours every day at 9:00 A.M., 12:00 P.M, and 3:00 P. M.

Of the 200 volcanos in Costa Rica, Volcano Cerro Tortuguero is considered to be inactive. This guided walk will take you to the highest point of the entire Caribbean Coast. Volcano Cerro Tortuguero is 390 feet high and will amaze you with its beautiful views as well as the sighting of a large amount of trees, plants, and animals. You should wear closed shoes, and bring mosquito repellant, sun block, and bottle water.

If you visit Tortuguero during the months of July – October, you can experience the arrival of the female green turtles on Tortuguero beach by taking a nocturnal tour with an experienced guide. In this tour you will learn about the life cycle of the green sea turtle. Tortuguero is one of the wolrlds most important nesting sites for the endangered green sea turtle. Here you can see the spawning process. You should wear dark clothes, closed shoes, and use mosquito repellant. You should bring a rain jacket because you never know when it is going to rain in Tortuguero.

In this tour you are going to enjoy the tremendous biodiversity of Tortuguero. You can either take the tour by canoe or boat. We recommend you take the tour at 5:30 A. M. to increase your chances of seeing and enjoying the diferent animals in Tortuguero.
